Old Changi Hospital, Singapore, August 2009

Monday, August 31st, 2009

I’ve been to OCH before [] to take photos but I think I’ve got a better eye and better equipment now. The end results don’t necessary justify that statement. I like the photos, but they don’t have that creepy feeling I would want. Partly I think it’s due to not post-processing the images very much. No major dodge and burn or change in the hues. Partly the images don’t tell any story. Maybe I need a model.

Four floors of keywords

Yea, four of the top ten search queries that return a page in their results on Google are all pointing to the same entry []. Not sure how I feel about being known for one night of whoring… I didn’t even get any…

And what’s up with the lack of spelling skills? I thought I was bad.

This, I think, is the first video on YouTube that I have been impressed enough to share here. (I should have posted Home [], but never got around to it…).

Brilliant. It took me a few seconds to get into it but the gestalt of the whole thing is wonderful. I especially like that they include things like the old woman eating soup and the condom scene. Not shying away from things people don’t usually want to put into such videos.

Credit where it’s due: I saw this on Intrepid Flame’s [] blog.

“How does newness come into the world? How is it born?

Of what fusions, translations, conjoinings is it made?

How does it survive, extreme and dangerous as it is? What compromises, what deals, what betrayals of its secret nature must it make to stave off the wrecking crew, the exterminating angel, the guillotine?

Is birth always a fall?

Do angels have wings? Can men fly?”

Old Mitre Hotel, Singapore, July 2009

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

As an afterthought to our visit to Haw Par Villa [] recently a mate and I visited the former Mitre Hotel to take some abandoned places photos. Didn’t get as much as I wanted out of it. I know from a Flickr search [] that many have taken very cool photos of the inside of the hotel. Unfortunately the place was locked down well and I could not get in to shoot the interesting stuff. Seems there are a couple of squatters that have taken to cleaning the place up quite a bit, and they have locked it down fairly well. Being that they were ‘home’ when we were there, we did not get to the interesting stuff. So only a few photos and not that exciting. But here they are.

Haw Par Villa, Singapore, July 2009

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

I went to Haw Par Villa with a mate to shot photos for my “Abandoned Places” [] collection and because I think abandoned places are cool. I don’t have a great eye to get the feeling across but I try. Haw Par villa is not actually abandoned, but it’s as close to it as you can come. I can’t imagine the government will keep it open too much longer. Click the image for the full set of photos. See Wikipedia [] for more info on Haw Par Villa..
